New Economics Institute Über New Economics Institute

The New Economics Institute uniquely combines vision, theory, action, and communication to effect a transition to a new economy -- an economy that gives priority to supporting human well-being and Earth's natural systems. Our multidisciplinary approach employs research, applied theory, public campaigns, and educational events to describe an alternative socio-economic system that is capable of addressing the enormous challenges of our times. Our premise is that a fair and sustainable economy is possible and that ways must be found to realize it.

La Liga Global

About Us

Overview

The Global League of Community Sustainers (“La Liga Global”) is a transnational network of migrants, remitters, their organizations and their allies, committed to using our collective voice and our economic power to build a better world for all where migration is a choice and not a necessity for economic survival.

La Liga Global was launched in May 2008 at the Transnational Assembly of Remitters and Families in Mexico City, Mexico by Transnational Institute for Grassroots Research and Action (TIGRA). Learn more about the Mexico Assembly. Visit Multimedia for pictures from the event.

We recognize that migrants and their families are sustainers of the global economy and in coming together as La Liga Global we can promote transnational humanity instead of corporate-driven globalization from above.

Humanitarian Technology Webseminar Series About the IEEE Humanitarian Technology Webinar Series

IEEE Humanitarian Technology Webinar Series are free and publicly offered on a global level.

Although advancements in technology have transformed the very fabric of society, a growing gap exists between the 'haves' and 'have-nots' when it comes to basic services and the dignity of choice in livelihood opportunities to ensure basic needs are met. This is exemplified by the following dire facts:

Half of humanity (over three billion people) are living on less than $2.50 per day A quarter of humanity (1.6 billion people) are living without electricity

Yet, we are inspired by the many new technologies, innovative business models and social entrepreneurship movements from all around the world that focus on improving developing country situations. With this new free Webinar series, IEEE is creating a platform to leverage innovation by galvanizing mainstream engineering communities to focus on core critical needs of availability and affordability of water, energy, transportation and communication.

Social Finance Vision

Many charities and social enterprises face serious financial challenges that stop them from carrying out their work effectively. We believe that, if social problems are to be tackled successfully, organisations seeking to solve them need sustainable revenues and investment to innovate and grow.

Our role is to devise the financial structures and raise the capital to enable this to happen.

Social Finance is building a pioneering organisation to develop financial products that marry the ambitions of investors and the sector. We support social organisations to raise and deploy capital; we work with government to deliver social change; and we develop social investment markets and opportunities.

Social Finance injects market principles into funding in a way that stands or falls on results - both social and financial. Our financial products forge essential links between the market, government and society for the greater good.

In these times more than ever, there is a pressing need to harness social investment to make a long term difference to society. This is our ambition.

Opportunity for the Majority

About the Inter-American Development Bank

We support efforts by Latin America and the Caribbean countries to reduce poverty and inequality. We aim to bring about development in a sustainable, climate-friendly way.

Established in 1959, we are the largest source of development financing for Latin America and the Caribbean, with a strong commitment to achieve measurable results, increased integrity, transparency and accountability. We have an evolving reform agenda that seeks to increase our development impact in the region.

While we are a regular bank in many ways, we are also unique in some key respects. Besides loans, we also provide grants, technical assistance and do research. Our shareholders are 48 member countries, including 26 Latin American and Caribbean borrowing members, who have a majority ownership of the IDB.

Our Fund for Special Operations (FSO) provides concessional financing to our most vulnerable member countries.

Given our shareholder base and prudent management, we have a strong financial position. As a result, the IDB is able to borrow in international markets at competitive rates and transfer that benefit to our clients.
